Should we care where 5G came from?

In certain conversations edge computing is often mentioned with 5G and references 5G’s capabilities. 5G enables edge computing. Having knowledge of what the fifth generation can do is great, however a greater appreciation can be realized when you understand the journey from radio to 1G to 5G, and how it all works. Further understanding where this technology came from can help you become a better-informed user and possibility an improved innovator. Module one, lecture topic 4 from the course lecture spoke of radio waves and explained the frequency ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum, and helped illustrate how waves can transmit. The technology from a radio to 5G is different but the concept of the “waves” is the same. When we grasp the origins of a technology, we can better understand how to use it and develop it further, making it possible for us to take advantages of such applications like edge computing.
